For spring 2012, Built by Wendy looked to the Greek isles via the movie “Summer Lovers” —sun-drenched, white stucco walls, brilliant blue ocean, languid seaside days and hot clubby nights.

Also taking a cue from classic French brands like Ton Sur Ton, Le Coq Sportif, and Naf Naf, Wendy Mullin designed a sportswear collection that’s at once relaxed, sexy and polished.

Inspirations are apparent. The shimmer of the Sea and vacation nightlife translate into metallic lurex dresses, tops and jackets.

80's loose looks are seen in slouchy linen trousers, men's style boxer shorts, linen-cotton cropped tank tops, roll neck sweaters and drop waist dresses.

The brilliant Mediterranean inspires hues of turquoise, electric and smokey blue.  Pastels and neutrals, enlivened by splashes of fuscia, pink, and yellow, look to the tiled paths on the island of Santorini and appear in soft mosaic print silk tops and dresses.

Relaxed ethnic touches hint at past summer travels and include a serape stripe sweater and an Indian woodblock floral cardigan.

Wendy Mullin’s custom prints include a delicate lingerie floral as well as a bold Laura Ashley-esque pop floral bearing the collection’s namesake.

More polished looks such as slim classic slacks and fitted pencil skirts done in lightweight silk canvas and linen are complimented by more sporty pieces like sheer knit tees and minidresses.
